2021 National Cherry Festival FAQ

The National Cherry Festival is filling the calendar of July 3rd-10th full of multiple events for the community to celebrate the summer! The National Cherry Festival staff and volunteers have been taking the time to plan a safe cherry celebration to give everyone something to celebrate.

What events can we expect to see in 2021?

The staff and volunteers have closely evaluated each event on the regular schedule to provide the community with events that take into consideration the health and safety of attendees and locals. Events you will find on this year’s calendar include virtual events (such as the Porch Parade and GT Pie Company’s Virtual Make & Bake), fitness events (such as Zumba, Yoga, Cherry Pie Bike Ride, Meijer Festival of Race presented by Cherry Bay Orchards) and events at the Open Space (such as the Food Court and Beer Tent).In addition, the NCF is also working on relocating some other events to allow people to spread out and socially distance. These included the Arts & Crafts Show and the Old Town Car Show which will take place at the Grand Traverse Commons.

Are you having an Air Show in 2021?

The National Cherry Festival will not host an Air Show in 2021.We are looking forward to welcoming back the National Cherry Festival Air Show in 2022.

Will there be any concerts?

Bay Side Music Stage Concert series will not take place in 2021. We are excited for a return to concerts in July 2022.

How about Fireworks and Parades?

The announcement regarding parades and fireworks will be made at a future date

Will you have Ultimate Air Dogs?

At this time, it is our plan to host Ultimate Air Dogs. As soon as the dates and times are confirmed it will be listed on events calendar here.

Wait, What? The Festival is having a beer tent? How is that going to work with the pandemic?

Yes, the National Cherry Festival will host a beer tent, however it might be better described as beer area. As we look to reconfigure the festival grounds into a more pandemic friendly area, we are increasing the size of our beer area. The beer tent will be limited to the amount of people allowed under state guidelines at the time of the Festival in July. At all times, the Festival will work local and state officials when planning events.

What Pandemic Precautions are you taking?

The National Cherry Festival will follow the MDHHS orders at the time of the Festival.

Are you hosting the Pow-Wow in 2021?
Please see below for a joint statement of cancellation:
Due to the current COVID-19 regulations, the National Cherry Festival and the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians have jointly decided to cancel the 2021 Pow-Wow, which normally takes place during the National Cherry Festival. Although this is not the outcome that had been hoped for organizers believe that this is best option this year to keep the community safe and healthy. Both entities value the partnership that they have grown over the years, and hope to be back to celebrate fully in 2022.

Will you be having your Volleyball events this year?
We will not be having Beach Volleyball or Teen Volleyball in 2021. We look forward to the return of these events in 2022.

WHEN IS THE FESTIVAL?

July 3 to July 10, 2021

WHERE IS THE FESTIVAL LOCATED?

The Festival takes place in beautiful Traverse City, Michigan! Although many of the events take place at the Open Space (near the corner of Union Street and Grandview Parkway) there multiple locations across town. Check the event calendar for specific locations.

WHERE CAN I PARK?

Parking is located throughout downtown Traverse City and is managed by the City of Traverse City. The City boasts several parking garages as well as street parking. For more information on parking in Traverse City, visit this website. The National Cherry Festival also offers free shuttle service in cooperation with Bay Area Transportation Authority (BATA). WHERE CAN I STAY?

WHERE CAN I PICK UP THE SHUTTLE?

The Bayline (operated by Bay Area Transportation Authority) will run from 7am to 10 pm during the National Cherry Festival every 12-15 minutes. The main pick up areas for the Bayline are Woodland Creek (East), Cherry Lot at Northwestern Michigan College (Central) and Meijer (West) Parking Lot adjacent to the Car Wash.

Shuttles approaching the Festival from the West will drop off at the intersection of State St & Union St. Shuttles approaching from the East/Central will drop off at the intersection of Front St & Union St. To return to your vehicle on the West Side, the shuttle will pick up at Front & Union and to return to your vehicle at the Central/East Location pick will be at State & Union St. For a map of the Bayline Route please click here.

CAN I BIKE TO THE FESTIVAL?

Yes, yes you can! We offer bike parking (brought to you by Norte) located in the Open Space.

WHERE IS THE ACCESSIBLE PARKING LOCATED?

The National Cherry Festival reserves two parking lots for accessible parking. One is located in Parking lot B (see City Parking lot map here) and the other is the public parking at the Clinch Park Marina. To enter the Marina parking lot, you must pass through the permit parking area. As these spots fill up fast, we also offer an accessible location that will allow the driver to drop off passengers in Lot B and then park off site.

WHEN ARE YOU OPEN?

The office is open regular business hours during the year. Since our hours do fluctuate a little, check out our contact us page for hour changes. During Festival Week, the Festival Open Space is open from 10 am to 10pm daily! The Midway (operated by Arnold Amusements) is open at 11 am .

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

We have over 150 events and 85% of those events are free! Check out our event calendar to see if your event has a cost associated with it.

ARE DOGS (OR OTHER ANIMALS) ALLOWED?

Only service animals are allowed at the National Cherry Festival. However, we do have a few pet friendly events, including the Kids Pet Show and Ultimate Air Dogs.

HOW CAN I BE A VENDOR?

All Vendor spots are filled for 2021. Please check back in Fall of 2021 for applications for Food Vendors and Onsite Marketers. Arts & Craft Show vendor applications are available at www.downtowntc.com starting in January of each year.

CAN I BRING MY DRONE?

The National Cherry Festival is a NO DRONE ZONE. Federal law prohibits flying a drone within 5 Nautical Miles of Cherry Capital Airport with permission from the FAA and Traverse City Air Traffic Control Tower. Violators may face federal, civil and criminal penalties. Questions? Contact 231-486-2900
