Maggie Schneider could finally relax after the announcement of this year's Cherry Queen. "I'm so overwhelmed and I'm so excited; I just want to see my parents," said Schneider of Traverse City, who will be a senior this year at the University of Michigan, where she studies psychology.
Schneider competed against 20 women, and was then named one of five finalists. As Cherry Queen, Schneider's duties will include promoting the cherry industry by traveling around the country and presenting cherry pies to presidents, governors and foreign ambassadors.
The National Cherry Queen receives an $8,000 scholarship to the college or university of her choice. Other Cherry Queen finalists were Allison Hurlow of Berrien Springs, Carrie Gregory of Traverse City, Sarah Adams of Owosso, and Brandi McClain of Grayling.
