2015 Race Date:  Saturday, July 11, 2015

5K Walk/Run, 10K, 15K, and the Chateau Grand Traverse Half Marathon

The Original Traverse City Foot Race started in 1973 as a 10K and then in 1978 shifted to a 15K and finally in 1989 added Traverse City's first 5K. Today there's all 3 of those events and a half-marathon! This race has seen over 50,000 participants cross the finish line.

Congratulations to all of the runners! If you didn't get your medal at the finish you can pick it up at the Cherry Festival office.

2015 Race Features

  • Half Marathon start will be at Chateau Grand Traverse, the first 2 miles will include a trail run through the vineyard and a cherry orchard!

  • If you sign up and decide you want to run a different distance you may switch your race online through your Runsignup account (until July 3rd). If you choose to switch events, there will be a $5.00 race transfer fee.

5:00 - 6:30am - Bus transportation to the Half Marathon Start will depart the Eastern Elementary area.

No parking is available at the Half Marathon Start.

6:00-7:00 a.m. – LATE packet pick up & registration

On race day, Late Packet Pick-up is only available at Eastern Elementary.

Will Run For Cherries

Imagine lining up with thousands of runners just like you on a beautiful Traverse City morning. You enjoy the picturesque views of Grand Traverse Bay as you push yourself to beat last year's time. You come to the final stretch downtown and you're reenergized by thousand of cheering fans all the way to the finish line where you're handed cherries after you cross the line.

Course Maps 

Miles will be marked with signage on your right hand side as you complete the course. Water stations and porta-johns will be located throughout the course, but we suggest bringing your own preferred performance nutrition item (example: GU) to eat during the race. Maps are for reference only and may indicate a slightly different distance. All courses will be accurate distance.

Important Race Day Information

Parking:

Available on the Campus of NMC, EXCLUDING Aspen, Cedar and Chestnut Lots. Parking also at Eastern Elementary and nearby Traverse City Central High School parking lots. Follow volunteers and signage. Please Note: NMC Main Entrance closes at 7:00AM on race morning! Enter NMC parking via East College Dr. (off Front St.) after 7:00AM.

Half Marathon Bus Transportation:

All half marathon runners should be prepared to ride a bus from Eastern Elementary area to the Start on Old Mission. Busses will run from 5:00am - 6:30am. There is no parking available at the start but runners can be dropped off.

Race Day Reminders:

1. Wear your race number on the front of your clothing.
2. You will be recorded for your NET time which is actual start line to actual finish line.
3. Baby joggers are not recommended, but if you must, please register for the 5K and line up behind all runners.
4. NO leashed or unleashed dogs.

Finish Line Shuttle:

There will be shuttle buses available west of the finish line until 10:45AM. Buses will drive a loop from the finish line to Eastern Elementary. 

 

Awards

Age Group Awards

Top 3 in each of the following 5K, 10K, 15K & Half Marathon Run Age-groups: 13 & under, 14-16, 17-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, and 90 & over.

Due to the DTE Energy Foundation Cherry Royale Parade start time of 11:00AM, age group awards may be claimed in the finish line area up to 10:45AM.  Following the parade, awards will be available at the Festival's Welcome Center located in the Open Space Park. Awards will also be available at the National Cherry Festival office starting on Monday, July 20.

All Half Marathon Runners will receive a finisher’s medal. Medals will be available at the finish line area up to 10:45 AM. Results Posting & Awards Pick-up

Results will be posted within the finish line area. In addition, official results will be posted online immediately after race at the National Cherry Festival’s website at www.cherryfestival.org. Due to the DTE Energy Cherry Royale Parade start time of 11:00AM, age group awards may be claimed in the finish line area up to 10:45AM.  Following the parade, awards will be available at the Festival's Welcome Center located in the Open Space Park.   Awards will also be available at the National Cherry Festival office starting on Monday, July 20.

Safety

The race route follows city streets that are not entirely closed to vehicular traffic. Certain streets may be under construction or in disrepair. Stay alert! In the 15K, participants should be prepared to run the distance in 2 hours or less. This equates to a 13 minute per mile pace. In the Half Marathon, participants should be prepared to run the distance in 3 1/2 hours or less. This equates to a 15 minute per mile pace.

All courses and finish line will close promptly at 10:45 a.m. for the start of the DTE Cherry Royale Parade. 15K participants are advised of a steep downhill on McKinley Road. Half Marathon participants are advised that the first two miles will include a trail run throughout private property. We've received special permission to run the race through this property on race day only. Runners are not allowed to enter this property prior to the race.

In the event of weather issues or a municipal emergency, the police may advise race organizers not to hold the event. In such a scenario, race officials will cancel the event. Race officials will be using the WBGT Index to advise participants of weather conditions. Event policy prohibits refunds for any reason including a change of race date, suspension, or cancellation.

Computer Timing

The Meijer Festival of Races 5K, 10K, 15K & Half Marathon uses computer “chips” to time all races.  Mats at the starting line and at the finish give every runner a net time. The net time is the time it takes to run from the actual starting line to the finish line.
