2012 National Cherry Queen Application
On behalf of the Board of Governors of the National Cherry Festival, I would like to invite you to enter the 2012-2013 National Cherry Queen competition. Our program proudly boasts scholarship awards totaling $12,500. Candidates are scored on their intelligence, poise, and speaking ability.
The selection process begins Thursday, May 31, 2012, at our host hotel, the Great Wolf Lodge in Traverse City. During this three-day preliminary selection weekend, a panel of judges will assess each Candidate in a series of four personal interviews and a cherry industry speech presentation. In addition to the competition interviews and cherry industry speech, Candidates will also benefit from the wonderful educational and motivational seminars planned, as well as enjoying the terrific amenities of the Great Wolf Lodge.
Again in 2012, we will host the second annual “Cherry Blossom Runway Show – Featuring Candidates on the Catwalk”, Friday, June 1st at the Great Wolf Lodge Conference Center. All Queen Selection candidates will have a chance to model local and designer fashions in this runway show. All proceeds will benefit the National Cherry Festival Foundation and the Queen Scholarship Program.
The top four finalists will be announced on Saturday, June 2nd, 2012. We encourage your friends and family to attend this exciting announcement ceremony. Each one of the four final Candidates will receive a scholarship award of $1,000, a wardrobe provided by Younker’s, and also the wonderful experience of being treated as “royalty” during festival week.
The four final Candidates will return to Traverse City during the 2012 National Cherry Festival, July 7th – 14th, and compete in the final round of judging. While serving as court members to the current Queen, a new panel of secret judges will assess each of the Candidates at various events. The new 2012-2013 National Cherry Queen and 1st Runner-Up will be announced at the Coronation Ball on Friday, July 13, 2012 at the Park Place Hotel. The new 1st Runner-Up will receive an additional $750, for a total scholarship award of $1,750. And the 2012-2013 National Cherry Queen will receive an additional $7,250, for a total scholarship award of at least $8,250!
